We flew to Kodiak on a 50-minute flight from Anchorage. We drove all of
the paved road system, hiked in mossy temperate rain forest, watched Kodiak
brown bears catch salmon, splashed along an ATV track to a fishing spot,
and visited the tide pools.
We stayed at an authentic Alaskan B&B before meeting our canoe guide.
From the Swan Lake Canoe
Route entrance, we paddled across across five lakes, and portaged our canoe and gear on short trails
between them. We camped at Spruce Lake, and returned the next day without seeing any other people.
We stayed in a vacation rental in Moose Pass, a tiny town near the intersection of the
Sterling Highway and the Seward Highway. We went hiking, rafted the Upper Kenai
River, and drove to Seward for the day to visit glaciers.
