Grand Canyon 2001

We arrived at the South Rim around 5pm. After checking in to our room, we went to the visitor center and to several of the rim viewpoints.

We started our hike down Bright Angel Trail at 5am. The trail descends 4,420 feet in 7.7 miles. We took it pretty easy, with lots of stops. We made it to the rafts just before 10am.
To the right, the sun is coming up over the North Rim, with Plateau Point and the inner canyon ahead.
Several switchbacks on the final stretch of the trail are visible in the picture below right.
