Side canyons: 2

Here we are hiking up Matkatamiba Canyon. In places it was only three feet wide, and we had to use our butts to navigate up the steep parts.

After the climbing expedition, we lounged around on these rocks for a while.
On day 6, we spent the day in the spectacular Havasu Canyon. We hiked up Havasu Creek to get to this fine loafing area. The water in the creek contains lots of minerals, which gave it a bluish-green tint.
Some of us continued on to Beaver Falls and had lunch by the turquoise pool below.

The green rocks look algae-covered, but they are actually travertine, a greenish crystalline mineral formation.

The creek had many deep pools like this one. Unlike the Colorado, the water was warm enough for comfortable swimming, giving the canyon a tropical feel (at least, if you didn't look up at the towering walls).
